replaying VTMB

6th of january 2024

I started playing Bloodlines again and i wanted to show some things that stand out to me every playthrough.

I got to Pisha and, like every time, i am thinking about what she says here a lot.

Dialog with Pisha

Pisha: My birth name I tell no one. You may address me as Pisha. Pisha was the name of my companion and lover in a time before my death, 230 years ago. She has no need of it anymore.

I saw the next dialog for the first time. It's also interesting to me. The girl she talks about is a ghoul i wanted to get rid of. So i told her to go Pisha.

Dialog with Pisha

Pisha: That girl you sent me... I've grown used to masquerading as one of them and seeking something suitable feeble enough to cull from the herd. That's the first time I've had one delivered.

Another thing that stops me each playthrough is this painting.

Love and Pain framed in the game

In game: Love and Pain

Love and Pain (1895)

Love and Pain (1895) - Edvard Munch

It's just so mesmerizing.

I have no good sources for the following.
Edvard Munch made a series of this motif. He called the first painting "Love and Pain", but others called it and the later works "Vampire" or variants of it. Edvard Munch never used that name and the motif was always just a kiss on the neck. The works were controversial because the man submisses to the woman, it looks like vampirism, prostitution and/or like the woman inflicts pain on the man. And the Nazis disliked it.

Well what do i think is depicted? I am interested in vampires, so of course i see a vampire in it. Still i find the title "Love and Pain" fitting and like it more than the boring "Vampire".

My favorite work is the one shown on the right. I mean look at the hair! It is also the basis for the in-game one, which has changed colors.

Love and Pain framed in the room

The painting in the room of Therese and Jeanette Voerman

The vibrant reds emphasizes the vampire theme and like stated in Explaining One of VTMB Paintings, the altered hair color contrasts nicely with the room. As a whole i think the colors fit the mushy texture quality perfectly. I might even like the in-game version more than the original works.

My second favorite is one of the "Vampire II" prints. They look pretty similar, but of the ones i found, i like this the most.

There are no real sources for this stuff, at least no one cites anything. Well, there is one exception: Edvard Munch's own manuscripts translated to english. But i couldn't find anything about the reception or vampirism of the work, with the effort i put in. A translated section of one manuscript is also in a Wikipedia source. The site is an auction site for a "Vampire II" print, which was sold for $338,500. A FUCKING AUCTION SITE(?), WHICH ...achieved the world record price for an artwork at auction, launched the first fully on-chain auction platform dedicated to exceptional NFT art...! THAT IS ONE OF THE FEW SOURCES????????? anyway, i see no evidence that connects the section of the manuscript with the artworks. The section fits the other stuff said about the works, but idk how true the other stuff even is. The section can also be found at eMunch under "Intermezzo". So, i read different articles, but idk where the information comes from... here is the Wikipedia link for Love and Pain.

There is also another painting in the same room, that i never stop for, because i don't want to look at it.

Painting of a man and young Jeanette & Therese

Voerman family painting

I hate the painting, i hate that it hangs in the room and i hate that it is larger than everything else.

Idk if i find other interesting stuff, maybe i make a second part of this.
